It’s unique, almost like a large family who care and support people to achieve their professional and personal goals. It’s collegiate, built on high levels of trust between managers and staff who are customer-focused and driven to deliver for customers. It encourages innovation, drives for growth and embraces challenges.
Be rewarded for extra effort
Burra Foods runs a generous employee benefits program, providing a huge range of performance and social incentives during the year. Examples include the monthly Burrilliant Awards recognising people who go above and beyond in delivering their normal duties, Christmas parties for staff, company-subsidised staff cycling and running clubs, and free health and wellbeing and social programs – to list a few!
Launching successful careers in science
In a world where career paths can seem daunting and opportunities scarce, internships are a way for young people to explore options and gain valuable skills.
Krystal Condoluci, Laboratory Manager at Burra Foods, reminisces on her journey from intern to expert, highlighting the positive impact of intern opportunities.
A decade ago, Krystal worked as an intern at Burra during her gap year, fresh out of secondary school and eager to learn more about the world of science.
“It was really interesting getting to apply what I learned in school to a real-life work environment,” she said. “From conducting daily testing to ensuring product safety, that internship gave me the insight I needed to decide on a career in the food industry.”
Returning from overseas travels, Krystal found herself drawn back to Burra, a testament to the company’s culture and positive work environment. “Burra is a great place to work,” she added, noting the company’s pivotal role in nurturing local talent and fostering community bonds.
Sage Anderson, who completed Year 12 in 2023, echoed Krystal’s sentiments as she begins her internship journey at Burra. Excited by the prospect of exploring her passion for science, Sage sees her internship as a springboard to future success.
“This opportunity is really giving me a head start,” she explained. “I’m doing a Bachelor of Science next year and already I’m learning so much about laboratories, equipment and processes.”
As a Laboratory Officer, Sage undertakes environmental sampling and sensory testing. “There’s a lot to learn about food, much more than what we see in supermarkets,” she added.
At Burra Foods, internships are more than just opportunities; they represent a chance for discovery and growth. Through practical learning and mentorship, young talents like Krystal and Sage are both on the path to rewarding careers in science.
